As print production specialists, we were asked to design, specify and print manage the PechaKucha programme, showcasing the eight speaker profiles.
Inspired by John H. Schaar “The future is not some place we are going, but one we are creating” – as a studio our vision is to create a sustainable future.
Wood is a natural and sustainable resource, and with the added benefit that all G.F Smith papers have a low environmental impact, we specified G.F Smith’s ‘Gmund Urban Brasilia Dust’ paper stock.
Crafted from wood, it has the Gmund Eco certification. The woodgrain paper line combines a luxurious, tactile experience with warmth and luxury at first glance.
The cover foil design celebrates the special 20th volume, combine with roman numerals to represent the PechaKucha 20×20 rule: to present a given theme using only 20 images and 20 seconds per image. And to connect with the autumnal season, we specified the copper foil 6734.
The format for the programme was concertina folded, so when unfolded and stood up the format creates the Roman numeral ‘XX’. And to save on resources no binding methods were used.
The inside of the programme showcases the line-up of eight speakers, including multi-award winning designer Rick Banks and founder of ‘The Designers Republic’ Ian Anderson. The zigzag layout echoes the ‘XX’, with text flowing bottom, top, bottom, top throughout.
With the design of the Futura typeface turning 90 this year, we wanted to use it for the body copy, which complimented the stencil font.
